Mission 116 Update for October 2025 (Month 18)

Although there has been and still is a LOT going on, not so much of it is measurable via this list.

25. Follow an elimination diet for 60 to 90 days
So far this has been a bit of a fail, mostly due to stress and health issues. And weather. I am such a comfort food eater when the weather gets colder. This does not mean I have given up on this goal, merely that it has been delayed.

28. Weight monitoring
I haven’t weighed myself lately but think it unlikely that I am continuing to lose weight.

29. BMI monitoring
Again, since I’ve not weighed myself for a while I can’t calculate BMI either.

53. Fix exterior spotlights
The front corner one remains incomplete. The old fixture is gone, I have purchased the new one and new bulbs, but getting the handyman to show up and do this five minute chore seems really difficult.

79. Declutter basement
Handyman Steve came by and took another truckload of discards to the dump and I am delighted to have it all gone. A few more things do remain, aside from the things I will leave for the new owners, but the basement is impressively empty these days.

96. Prepare a list of necessary selling/moving tasks and a schedule for them
At this point the list for selling the house is done and I have a five week spreadsheet schedule prepared for moving! There may be some issues that turn up post-inspection – the expectation is that my realtor will be able to negotiate any of those as price adjustments rather than my actually having to do the repairs.

99. Dispose of unwanted items
Not as big a decluttering month as September was, but very satisfying. I was so happy to get rid of a lot of bottled products for cleaning, pet accidents and the like. It felt really good to get rid of various toxic type stuff properly and safely disposed of - even if I did have to drive 200 miles in the rain to do so!

101. Settle on date to list house
I did sign with a local realtor. Our plan was to spend a week making the last touches and then the house would officially go on the market today, November 1st. Well, word got around quickly and after four showings last Friday, I received a purchase offer a week ago today. The inspection was done on Thursday and I am still waiting on the results.

103. Reserve a POD for moving
The way things are working out, I will be able to stick with my December 2 date for the POD delivery.

104. Hire a crew to help me finish packing and load up the Pod
Hired a crew to do the loading on December 3 and the kiddo is planning to fly in on either the 4th or 5th and hopefully we will be on the road by that weekend. The buyers have generously offered to let me stay in the house until mid-month as their moving date is flexible, but I don’t want to overstay that generosity.

107. Prepare a folder of needed info for new owners
I have a drawer full of manuals, instructions and various miscellaneous material that I hope the buyers will find helpful.

Now I am beginning to wonder just what November and December’s lists will look like!

Database maintenance

Good morning, afternoon, and evening!

We're doing some database and other light server maintenance this weekend (upgrading the version of MySQL we use in particular, but also probably doing some CDN work.)

I expect all of this to be pretty invisible except for some small "couple of minute" blips as we switch between machines, but there's a chance you will notice something untoward. I'll keep an eye on comments as per usual.

Ta for now!

AWS outage

DW is seeing some issues due to today's Amazon outage. For right now it looks like the site is loading, but it may be slow. Some of our processes like notifications and journal search don't appear to be running and can't be started due to rate limiting or capacity issues. DW could go down later if Amazon isn't able to improve things soon, but our services should return to normal when Amazon has cleared up the outage.

Edit: all services are running as of 16:12 CDT, but there is definitely still a backlog of notifications to get through.

Edit 2: and at 18:20 CDT everything's been running normally for about the last hour.
